Sunday in New York

November 29, 2011

For the last two days I've stayed at home, because of a flu. So naturally, the best thing to do is watch movies. I came across "Sunday in New York" last night on TCM, and since it is a romantic comedy from 1963 I had to watch it. The movie was lovely, as any other romantic comedy, but what I loved most about it-the apartment where half of the movie was set.

Things I loved about the apartment:
1) It's in New York
2) It was levelled, the living room was on the main level, the bedroom was upstairs and the bar was on a lower level.
3) Since it was levelled, it had a staircase. Any apartment that has stairs is perfection in my eyes.
4) Wonderful red brick walls
5) A fireplace
6) Huge windows

To prove it to you, I found a few pictures from a blog called Silents and Talkies, which is all about old movies, woohoo !

And if you're still not convinced, take a look at this little part of the movie.

Black nights

Florence and the Machine- No light, no light

*insert complaining about weather*- the conclusion is that it's dark. So I decided to go along with it and take the pictures in complete darkness.
Yesterday, Getter and I went to PÖFF(Black nights film festival). We saw a wonderful French silent movie "The Artist". It was black-and-white, set in the 20s in Hollywood and had amazing classical music playing on the background. It was really  good and I definitely recommend it to you. If you're not a fan of old movies, watch it for the clothes. Or the adorable dog, who was by far the best character in the whole movie. It is even said, that it might be an Oscar nominee..

Somehow it happens, that when I have to dress for the night, I firstly turn to my cut-off jeans. I really like them, but it would be unethical to wear them at school, so whenever I get the change, I try to incorporate them in my outfit. I paired them with a wonderful dark purple blazer that I got from my favourite thrift store during fall break.
The necklace is something that I found from my jewellery box. I got it as a birthday present from my relatives years ago, but now I rediscovered its fabulousness. And the hat is my mom's, not mine..

Fingers crossed that we'll be blessed with snow soon , because it's the first advent already !

Sweater heaven in pink

November 22, 2011

My super-duper warm and fuzzy bright pink sweater. Made by my mom decades ago. Happy birthday to her   !
They say that the older you get, the more pink you wear. Even though half of my mother's wardrobe is in pink/purple colours, I have inherited this magnificent sweater. This is quite extravagant on its own, so I decided to dress it down with a simple black skirt, black tights and a white shirt. To make it just a bit more interesting I chose my favourite turquoise jewellery.
Tomorrow we're going to Dagö's concert and on Friday we have lunch at fabulous Senso. Let the celebrations begin!

Playbox 2011

November 20, 2011

The competition at our school that I told you about was as fun as always. It's one of the highlights of every schoolyear and we have taken part 8 years now. It's always weeks and weeks of preparing for this one night. So was this year. We chose our song to be Oh Land - Sun of a gun. And with the help of our wonderful friends, we added a dubstep version to it.
We were the second ones to perform , so the stage fright went away quite quickly. For the rest of the night we could happily enjoy ourselves, until the jury came on stage. Turns out, WE WON ! We have never won before and finally, our efforts paid off. It felt unbelievably good to go on stage and accept our prize, which was a bag of random goodies, a cake that tasted as sweet as victory, shampaign and the best of them all- we get to make a music video for the dance !! How awesome is that !
I have a video and some pictures to show you. For some reason there was a projector which blocked the perfect view, but just look past that.

A decade in the dark

November 17, 2011

This week has been quite hectic. We have a competition at school, where you basically have to copy a singer/song. Our group has always taken part in it. As always, we chose a singer that's not very famous and known, so it would be difficult to compare us with her. But our dance gets more complicated every year, so I've spent most of my free time on dancing . But it's awesome, I promise. ( It's on Friday, and I'll definitely post the video here too ).
These pictures were taken last Saturday, also during our rehearsal. It was about three o'clock and it was getting dark outside. It's like living in the polar night or something, because the weather is so gloomy and dark. As you can see, it's no inspiration for dressing in bright colours.
The coat on the pictures is the fabulous thing I got from Tartu. I've been wearing it ever since and it's perfect for our weather right now, not too cold, not too warm. And the parka'ish shape is perfection .
Tonight I'm going to the ballett with Getter and Kaisa, woohoo !

New tech

November 15, 2011

You can now welcome me in the smart phoneclub. I'm a proud owner of Nokia E71. It's still a bit tricky, since the phone is also kind of  a computer , so I have to get used to it, but I really really like it already.
Also , if you follow me on Twitter, then I decided to become more active there. I'll probably just post irrelevant random stuff, but that's what Twitter is for, right ?

Talk about football

November 13, 2011

Friday was the big day- the play-off match between Estonia and Ireland. The game was awful, to say the least. As pretty much everyone else, I think it's partially the umpire's fault, but the Estonians didn't play well. I don't judge them though, it's our first time ever in the play-offs and that's already wonderful itself.
We spent the night at Merelle's , celebrating her birthday and afterwards went to the old town just to find out that there wasn't any room anywhere. All the bars/pubs/cafes were absolutely full (of Irish fans).

For the day I chose to wear my blue skirt, kind of as a support gesture. To make it a bit more interesting, I paired it with my new red cardigan. It's yet another thrifting find to be prepared for winter.

I've spent my Sunday mostly procrastinating, listening to Coldplay's and Florence's new albums and studying. Now it's time to watch this week's Gossip Girl episode and then I'm going to the cinema with my dad to see "Mulholland Drive".

Have a wonderful Father's Day, everyone !

11.11.11

November 11, 2011

I hope you made your wishes ! Have a magical weekend !

Who turned a pencil into a skirt ?

November 10, 2011

Some years ago in the very start of this blog, I was completely obsessed with Gossip Girl. As you know, my favourite character is Blair and I was certain that I was a true Blair also ( I had also read all the books, so I liked her even before the TV show ) . So I needed a lot of feminine skirts and of course headbands in my wardrobe. This pencil skirt was basically the first one I got and thus began my skirt-obsession ( yes, I feel a bit like a writer from the Middle Ages, when I write thus.. ). This skirt has bravely stayed with me, even though I've given all the headbands to my sister.

I decided to pair this relic of my wardrobe with a funky sweater I got from Tartu. It just happened, that as a contrast to the straight lines of the sweater, all the accessories are perfectly round. With all the black and white going on in the outfit, my nails are the only colourful thing on these pictures !

current...

book: "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert
music: well, I still listen to awfully huge amounts of Hurts and Daggers, but Lykke Li is slowly replacing them.
wish: Christmas. There are Christmas cards and decorations sold everywhere already . I want the snow and the beautiful lights and all the magnificent smells that go with the best holiday of the year .
newest thing: That's a surprise. But I promise, you'll get to know it soon !
DIY plan: I decided to start making myself a proper scrapbook, just need to find the right one and then fill it
with awesomeness
apology: To keep this blog going on a quite regular basis, as it was in summer, which I loved, I would need infinite time/funds/personal photographer, which I unfortunately can't have. So this is my apology to all of my readers, who might wait for new posts from me, but I simply need to put school and studying first. Quality not quantity, right? :)

Colours versus greyness

November 04, 2011

Yesterday's weather was unbelievably grey. It's like someone shed a curtain of grey fog and mist over the city. So today I decided to fight the greyness with bold colours. And it was a wonderfully sunny and warm day.
Now I'm off to see "The Adventures of Tintin" with my sister. I hope everyone has a marvellous weekend !

Lykke Li - Sadness is a blessing

Green sweater part 2

November 01, 2011

I love my Tuesdays . It's always the day when I have no obligations besides studying, so I have the rest of the evening for myself. One of my favourite days of the week :)
As you can see, I can't really get enough of the soft and comfy sweater. I decided to wear it yesterday for the first day of this half-term, when I already had an absolutely marvellous test in chemistry( my least favourite subject !) . Somehow the skirt and my Twiggy-earrings gave the outfit a sixties twist, don't you think?
Which sweater-outfit do you like more- this one or the one with jeans?

Now I'm off to treat myself with a cup of tea and the new HIMYM episode, since it's Tuesday.
I hope you all have a magical 1.11.11 !
